Getting the truck is only the beginning.

Now it’s time to learn what you’ve got.

A new-to-you semi can look good, run good, and still come with a long list of unknowns. Maintenance history may be incomplete. Part numbers may not be written down. You may not yet know what normal oil pressure, temperatures, sounds, feel, fluid use, tire wear, or operating behavior look like for this particular truck.

The Mile-Proven Truck Setup Workbook gives you a practical way to start turning those unknowns into a truck-specific baseline.

Build the baseline before the miles pile up

The first days and weeks with a truck are when you are learning the most about it. This workbook helps you capture that information while it is fresh and turn it into a practical plan for the road ahead.

Use it to:

Record the truck’s starting condition
Separate what needs attention before the first load, what should be handled soon, and what can be watched or monitored
Build a truck-specific reference for IDs, components, parts, fluids, and commonly needed information
Establish upcoming maintenance and repair priorities
Establish a starting reference for gauges, sounds, handling, fluid levels, and operating characteristics—and refine it as the miles add up
Plan the tools, spares, roadside resources, and emergency equipment that make sense for your truck and operation
Organize important information before you need it on the side of the road
Revisit the baseline during the first 30 days and add what real miles teach you about the truck

The goal is not to create more paperwork.

It is to know what you have, know what it needs, and recognize when something changes.

WHAT’S INSIDE

My Truck at a Glance

Create a quick-reference page for the truck information you may need at a shop, parts counter, roadside call, or when you are away from the truck.

Initial Condition Snapshot

Document the truck’s starting condition and capture the things you want to address, investigate, or continue watching.

Initial Action Plan

Turn what you found into priorities: Before First Load, Soon, or Watch / Monitor.

Truck ID & Component Reference

Keep important truck, engine, transmission, axle, and component information together instead of searching for it every time you need it.

Parts Reference

Build your own quick-reference list for filters, belts, fluids, bulbs, fittings, and other commonly needed parts.

Set Up Your Truck Records

Identify the records and information you want organized and accessible as the truck goes into service.

Initial Maintenance Plan & Key Contacts

Record known or upcoming maintenance and keep important shop, tire, roadside, towing, dealer, and parts contacts close at hand.

Establish a Mechanical Starting Point

Work through the truck system by system so you have a clearer picture of where things stand when you begin operating it.

Learn What “Normal” Looks and Feels Like

Begin establishing the readings, sounds, feel, fluid levels, and operating characteristics that will become your reference point for this particular truck.

Roadside Repair Plan & Tool Kit

Think through what you can realistically handle yourself, which tools belong on the truck, and which problems mean it is time to call for help.

Truck Tire Decision

Look at the tire setup, record important tire information, and think through how you intend to handle a roadside tire problem before the flat happens.

Smart Spares, Consumables & Work Gear

Build a useful truck-specific supply list around the repairs and work you realistically expect to handle—without carrying a pile of random parts and supplies you may never use.

Emergency & Stay-Ready Equipment

Prepare for the situations that go beyond an ordinary mechanical repair—from weather and delays to unexpected downtime.

Navigation

Record truck and trailer dimensions, navigation settings, backup options, and the information that can help prevent an expensive wrong turn.

Set the Truck Up Like You Are Going to Live in It

Think through the practical cab and sleeper setup that makes long days and unexpected delays easier to manage.

Plan for charging, sleeper power, downtime

Plan for charging, sleeper power, downtime, and the basic things you may depend on if the truck cannot provide its normal power or support.

Pack for the Trip That Goes Wrong

Build a small practical margin for the unexpected—when a delay, breakdown, weather problem, or other change keeps you away from home longer than planned.

Roadside Breakdown Call Sheet

Keep the information a roadside, tire, towing, or repair provider may ask for in one place so you are not trying to gather it while stranded.

First 30 Days With This Truck

Use the first real miles to refine the original baseline, revisit WATCH items, and record what the truck begins to teach you.

Truck Setup & Shopping Plan

Collect the tools, spares, equipment, and other items you still need, then prioritize them instead of buying randomly.

Set Up for the Freight You Actually Haul

Think through the equipment and preparation required for the type of work the truck will actually be doing.

Final Mile-Proven Check

Bring everything together for one final review of the truck, your records, your preparation, and anything that still needs attention.

MADE TO BE USED TWO WAYS

Print It

Print the workbook and take it out to the truck. Work through it by hand with the truck, records, data plates, and other information in front of you.

Keep the completed pages with your truck records or in the record system that works best for your operation.

Fill It Digitally

Prefer to keep everything on your computer or tablet? The workbook is also fillable, allowing you to type directly into the PDF and save a separate completed copy for each truck.

CLICK. JUMP. KEEP WORKING.

This is more than a stack of printable pages.

The Table of Contents is clickable, so you can jump directly to the section you need, and PDF bookmarks are included for quick navigation throughout the workbook.

Whether you are sitting in the truck, working from a laptop, or pulling up a reference later, you can get to the information you need without scrolling page by page.

USE IT WITH THE FREE MILE-PROVEN TRUCK SETUP GUIDE

The free Mile-Proven Truck Setup Guide explains the thinking behind the process—the things worth looking at, recording, considering, and setting up when you take on a new or new-to-you truck.

This workbook is where you put that information to work.

The guide helps you understand what to look for and why it matters.

The workbook gives you a place to record what you found on your truck and what you are going to do about it.

THIS WORKBOOK IS FOR YOU IF…

You just bought a new or new-to-you semi truck
You are taking over a truck you have not operated before
The truck came with incomplete maintenance or repair history
You want to establish your own starting point instead of relying on assumptions
You want important part numbers and truck-specific information somewhere you can actually find them
You want a practical plan for maintenance, tools, spares, roadside problems, and setup
You want to establish a starting reference so you are more likely to recognize when something changes
You would rather prepare while the truck is parked than figure everything out on the shoulder of the highway

NOT JUST FOR DAY ONE

The first inspection gives you a starting point. Real miles fill in the rest.

As you operate the truck, you will learn things you could not fully know on day one: its normal readings, fluid use, regeneration patterns, sounds, feel, quirks, recurring needs, useful part numbers, and which tools or spares actually earn a place aboard.

That is why this workbook includes a First 30 Days section.

Revisit it as you learn the truck. Update what changed. Add what you discovered. Keep building the reference that becomes more useful the longer you own or operate it.

THE MILE-PROVEN IDEA

You cannot prevent every breakdown or predict every repair.

But knowing your equipment gives you a better chance of noticing changes early, making informed decisions, and being prepared when something does go wrong.

A baseline gives you something to compare against.

Good records give you information when you need it.

A practical roadside plan gives you options.

And sometimes, keeping the wheels turning tomorrow means knowing when to stop them today.
